Afternoon excursions are an important part of the Canadian Educational experience that we provide. Excursions to a broad range of interesting and informative local sites are offered from 12:30 – 4:00 pm daily. Teacher supervision is provided to ensure that students are safe and secure at all times. Transportation and entry fees are included in the current fee $685.00 CDN. Excursions are offered in two-week packages over a period of six weeks. Each two-week package is different from the others. See below for examples of excursion locations. Factors such as facility availability, transportation and weather may determine site visits. Pick-up and drop-off is at Richmond Secondary School.

Package One * July 4 -  July 15 * 12:30 – 4:00 pm

Package Two * July 18 – July 29 * 12:30 – 4:00 pm

Package Three * August 2 – August 12 * 12:30 – 4:00 pm

Students who wish to attend a college or University in British Columbia are encouraged to enroll in a “University Preparation” program to enhance the chances of admission and success. This English immersion program is three months in length.

Richmond School District is working in partnership with Kwantlen Polytechnique University to provide this opportunity. Students who successfully complete the three month program are looked upon favourably for admission to Kwantlen.

This program will provide excellent preparation for learning at the college and university levels. Students will be actively engaged in lessons related specifically to development of reading, writing, listening and speaking skills. Students will leave the program with improved understanding of the Canadian University learning environment, as well as enhanced vocabulary that is sure to improve the level of success.

Program details vary slightly, depending on length related afternoon excursions.

TESOL is an acronym that applies to professional educators who provide English instruction to speakers of other languages. In our changing world, there is a growing need to seek out and learn common ways of communicating. Global demands have seen English evolve as a predominant language of business, law, economics, travel and daily life.

The Richmond School District TESOL program provides an excellent opportunity for educators to learn about and practice effective ways to teach English to others in their home countries.

Richmond School District offers a comprehensive teacher training program that is designed to increase the effectiveness of Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages. Our program is designed to expose professional educators to a range of instructional strategies and assessment techniques that will enhance learning in their classrooms.

Richmond instructors are all professionally trained and licensed by the British Columbia College of Teachers.

NOTE: This program can be offered to groups at any time of the year.

Group rates differ from those available to individuals. Rates vary depending on the length and nature of the program offered. Starting dates are negotiable. The rates for groups in summer 2010 are shown below.

GROUP PRICES FOR BASIC WINTER AND SUMMER PROGRAMS

Program Runs Monday – Friday   2010 – 2011

Minimum 15 students per group * Minimum Age: 13 years old

Two Week Program

English Class 9:00 am – 12:00 noon

Excursion 12:30 pm – 4:00 pm

$985 / student

Early Bird Rate available until January 31, 2011

Three Week Program

English Class 9:00 am – 12:00 noon

Excursion 12:30 pm – 4:00 pm

$1385.00 / student

Four Week Program

Surcharges may apply after January 31, 2011

English classes provide intensive English communication skills, reading comprehension and
writing skills. Students will develop skills which are important for their academic success under the leadership of professional teachers. A certificate will be issued to each student upon completion.

Excursions are generally by private bus, always accompanied by professional staff and designed to
further English skills while enjoying our wonderful cultural attractions.

Applications for groups received after June 15, 2011 may be levied a 10% surcharge.
