The Richmond District International Summer English Program For Youth and Adults is ideal for individuals and groups wishing to enhance their English language skills while enjoying the Canadian cultural and social climate. The English language program includes all aspects of reading, writing, speaking and listening skills. Under the guidance of certified teachers, students will develop language skills that will contribute to their academic and professional success. Upon successful completion of each summer program, students will receive a certificate of success to indicate their achievements. There are four short term programs offered by Richmond School District throughout the year:

Classroom Sessions will be conducted during July and August in the modern and centrally located Richmond Secondary School from 9:00 am – 12:00 Noon from Monday to Friday.

Afternoon Excursion programs are generally by private coach service. Students are accompanied by certified staff at all times. These activities are highly organized and designed to be safe, as well as content and age-appropriate. Afternoon excursions are intended to augment newly learned English skills through interaction in the community, while offering an opportunity to see wonderful cultural attractions and amusements.

Homestay Accommodation is available to students/adults 12 years and older through local homestay agencies. Students will stay with local Canadian families who enjoy welcoming International Student into their family setting. Please contact ahuang@sd38.bc.ca or rwhite@sd38.bc.ca for further homestay information.

In addition to Summer Study Experiences, we offer full-credit International Education Programs at each of our ten secondary schools. Students 13 thru 17 years of age may be interested in joining hundreds of other International Students from all over the world in attending one of ten Richmond District Secondary Schools for full time study.

The Richmond International Student Program has been in operation since 1998. Successful applicants are permitted to enter Grades 8 through 12 at selected secondary schools in Richmond, by paying fees to cover the cost of their education. Currently, Richmond International Students come from many countries in Asia, Latin America, and Europe. They make up less than 3% of the total secondary school student population. We also occasionally accept elementary school students who are accompanied by at least one parent.

Typically there are three key reasons for seeking an educational experience in Canada: to graduate with a high school diploma from a Canadian school; to obtain fluency in English; and/or to develop a global perspective through contact with Canadian students or other overseas students coming from around the world. Each of these goals can be achieved in Richmond.
